Balltec designs, manufactures and tests high integrity mechanical connectors for critical applications in the global renewable energy and oil and gas sectors. The engineering team creates technical solutions for the transfer of load in moorings, lifting components and subsea cable connections.

The FEA Engineer will work alongside other engineers in the R&D and Engineering department to evaluate design
solutions, develop concepts and perform testing/analysis of new and existing products

General Duties

Structural analysis and assessment of innovative solutions for the Floating Offshore Wind sector via FEA (linear & nonlinear).

Produce design calculations using Mathcad Prime to validate FEA.

Evaluate and determine end of life (fatigue assessment) of future products in line with relevant specification.

Generate technical reports.

Participate in research, development and testing of new subsea products utilizing FEA and sound Engineering Principles.

Responsible for developing the implementation of new design calculations.

Implementation and management of structural analysis systems, Ansys Mechanical Pro & Ansys Discovery Simulation.

Providing technical advice and support to internal departments/customers.

Interface with other company departments to ensure effective communication.

Uphold the Balltec HSSEQ procedures and policies.

Education and Experience

Mechanical Engineering degree qualified.

Minimum 3 years FEA experience.

Significant experience of FEA and CAD, preferably Ansys Mechanical Pro.

Experience in Mathcad Prime.

Extensive experience in the use of engineering principles for structural analysis to industry standards and the ability to produce calculations to support the design of critical components.

Demonstrated initiative in solving challenging problems.

Good knowledge of engineering materials.

Good IT skills, e.g. Microsoft Office applications.

Good written and verbal communication skills.

Right to work in the UK.

38 hour working week (averaged over 2 weeks) with alternate Fridays or every Friday afternoon off.
